Farmington, Michigan, is one of those rare places where history and growth blend seamlessly. Both new and established businesses find their footing and thrive here. As brokers for The Thomas Duke Company, we’ve had the pleasure of working with many local entrepreneurs, helping them find spaces that are much more than properties. They’re part of Farmington’s ongoing story of growth, connection, and opportunity.
We’re excited to share a few projects that highlight the reasons Farmington is such a fantastic place to invest, grow, and call home.
In eight short months, Blue Hat Coffee Company, on the corner of Farmington Road and Grand River Avenue, has become so much more than another coffee shop. It’s a pulsing community hub. From the minute they opened their doors, it was clear that Blue Hat wasn’t just serving coffee; they were creating a space where locals could come together, build friendships, and soak in the unique vibe of downtown Farmington.
Blue Hat’s rapid growth has been incredible to watch. They’ve already asked us to help them sell a property in another community so they can focus on growing their Farmington presence. Blue Hat plans to be a long-term member of this community, and we’re thrilled to help them be here.
Farmington’s appeal goes beyond individual businesses. The town has a special sense of community that really comes to life in places like the Sundquist Pavilion in Riley Park. Whether it’s hosting farmers’ markets in the summer or ice skating in the winter, the Pavilion is the heart of Farmington, drawing people year-round and benefiting everyone—residents, businesses, nonprofits, and other community groups.
Another thing we love about Farmington is how walkable it is. You can park your car and easily wander from one spot to the next. Grab coffee at Blue Hat, shop at local boutiques, meet friends for an event at the Pavilion or for lunch. Farmington’s walkability factor attracts not only visitors; it’s a big selling point for businesses too.
In fact, we recently helped sell a former bank building to a healthcare company. What drew them to the property? The convenience of being close to downtown, where everything is a short walk away. They wanted to be part of a community where people are always out enjoying the area and supporting local businesses.
Farmington is a town that respects its history while continuously evolving, and no project better illustrates this than the transformation of the old Farmington Library on Farmington Road. Once central to the community, more recently the building had been occupied by a dental lab. When the city of Farmington approached us to find a new owner, they had a clear vision: something fresh, something to breathe new life into Farmington Road.
Within a few weeks, we had the property under contract with an investment group that shares the city’s vision for the future. While the plans for the building are still under wraps, we’re confident that the old library’s next chapter will fuel the growing energy of Farmington Road. Projects like these demonstrate how Farmington honors its past while creating space for the future.
The heart of Farmington is its downtown, but downtown’s influence stretches well beyond the core. Businesses outside the town center have seen more and more interest from buyers wanting to get in on the growth. A great example of this is the sale of a former Burger King and a public gym; Both of these businesses were just outside the core, but they caught the attention of entrepreneurs who recognized how valuable it is to be near downtown Farmington.
The ripple effect of downtown’s vibe shows how strong communities can create demand beyond their borders. As more businesses move closer to downtown Farmington, the town’s reach expands, creating opportunities for growth in ever-widening circles.
Farmington is one of those places that constantly surprises us. Every day we see new businesses taking root, new developments breathing fresh energy into the community, and an intensifying sense of connection. Whether it’s a coffee shop like Blue Hat, a healthcare provider moving into an historic building, or a new project popping up on Farmington Road, the future of this town shines bright.
We’re proud to be part of Farmington’s journey, helping businesses find spaces to grow and thrive in a town that offers so much to residents and entrepreneurs alike.
